Housing/Tourism/Cycle network

Newton Rigg estate is currently a makeshift hub for rural broadband, with a time of 5 years before the damage in turning it into a gated heavy goods vehicle compound can be undone. 5 years to plan for the future.

Currently all housing/development for penrith are on the same already busy roads, with a noted lack of planning for infrastructure and services. A new nursery being built on the complete opposite side of town to housing does not seem joined up thinking.

Is now the time to consider what was once a community asset to be used as such, with potential for doctors/dentists/park and ride/tourism hub with already existing parking and buildings available, space to expand already existing housing with various small developments already existing along the main road.

Part of the c2c it's well placed to have accomodation, cafe, and if thought about properly is enough justification to consider improving road network with path/cycle lane to local pub/shop at Newton Reigny.

There is already a circular path giving walking/cycle access to town in two directions meaning greener safer travel options available already.

There was previously a thriving nursery and on site restaurant which have now closed, showing that there is a need there should the site be used.

Why the contribution is important

We can't carry on building houses on the same parts of time whilst neglecting the need for proper infrastructure. Newton Rigg has always been up until recently a community asset and a positive beacon for Penrith.

It would be sad to see it become a lorry park, when it's potential is so much more.
